"Our five-and-a-half year old son Shane was diagnosed with Autism at age 2. However, from the time he could first hold a crayon at 10 months, his main passion was drawing. By the time he was three, he was replicating all the pictures from Blues Clues with drawings seemingly beyond his age. Today, he spends the majority of his free time drawing. Because of his passion and his natural articstic capabilities, we were thrilled when we learned of Danelle's art therapy program. We are now working on goals related to attention to task, story-telling, and imaginary play through art. Shane is motivated to work on these goals, even though they are difficult, because he enjoys the painting, the chalk, and the art process so much. Danelle is also using her art education training to help develop Shane's talent so that he might one day be able to have a career where he can apply his artistic skills." Colleen Kargel |
